April 14. [ RL with Feferi ]

[ half an hour on Google had helped Homura make a plan; she had chosen an Okinawan beach, on one of the smaller islands with rare visitors, southern enough to be warm even in April. Homura's carrying a cooler with snacks because it's important to be a good host when you're hanging out with alien princesses (you will not find this in any etiquette manual but it is the truth). ]

Oh, wow... it feels almost tropical here!

[ EVERYTHING IS SO GODDAMN EXCITING SHE'S ABOUT TO JUMP OUT OF HER SKIN! scales? whatever. she giggles the entire trip there, kicking her feet when sitting down, a skip in her step while standing up. she's missed the ocean, far more than she even realized.

it takes all her restraint not to launch herself straight at the water when they get there. ]

[ Homura sets her stuff down on the white sand, smiling ] You can get in the water right away, if you like! I'll follow you in.

[ feferi only makes it about halfway through that sentence before shamelessly scrambling for the water. she's SO EXCITED, nobody understands. there's a contended sigh from her the second her feet sink into the waves. ] The water is amazing!

[ Homura pulls off her coverup to reveal a purple swimsuit, and grabs an inner tube to take with her before walking down to the water herself. She's only swum in pools before, so better safe than sorry ] I'm glad. I hope you don't mind I'm not a very strong swimmer, though.

[ swimsuits? fuck that noise! feferi dives in fully clothed, shoes and all. the water flattens her hair and soaks her skin wonderfully. ] I'll save you if you start to drown! Hehehe.

[ your clothes are probably made out of ALIEN FABRIC that doesn't get wet. either that or you just don't care. Homura laughs herself (fef is a bit infectious) before wading out until she's waist deep in the water ] I can't believe it's so warm...

[ feferi starts to swim circles around her, giggling the whole time. ] Hurry up! Swim with me.

[ she puts the inner tube over her head, kicking off the sand and paddling further out ] I guess we don't need any life guards with you around.

[ still swimming circles around her. ] What's a life guard? That sounds stupid.

You don't have them? They work on human beaches, and they sit on tall chairs and watch to make sure no one's in trouble.

[ laughing ] I guess we didn't really need something like that! I don't think it's possible for a seadweller to drown.

I guess not! Do you really live underwater, or can you just hold your breath for a really long time?

Hehehe, I've got gills! I can breathe down there. Water pressure doesn't bother me either.

I could let you borrow my goggles, if you'd like! Your silly human lungs wouldn't be able to let you stay down there for long, but it's a start.

[ she takes the goggles and puts them on, squinting a bit; she'd left her glasses on the beach ] I'd appreciate that. I don't want my silly human body to drown either!

[ too bad if she was going to refuse, because feferi is already tugging homura and her inner tube out further. ]

There are so many exciting things under the water! Like colorful shells and squishy fish and funny-looking plants.

[ she lets herself be dragged out; she's gotten more confident lately, and besides, she's certain feferi won't let her drown ] I wonder if the animals and plants in your oceans are the same ones as here!

[ she makes a puzzled face, blinking a few times before staring down into the water. ] Do you think they would be different?

I don't know! You look different than a human, is all I was basing that off of. [ she peers down as well, as if she could actually see without her head underwater ]

[ this is something that must be investigated at once! she kicks off, diving straight down. ]

[ oh okay we're diving!!! Homura takes a deep breath and slips down out of the inner tube, flailing a bit with her arms and legs to get herself facing the right direction ]

[ WAHOO!! have a toothy grin from underwater. isn't this amaaaaazing? though there's not a lot around them but empty water and a few very confused looking fish. still, feferi looks about ready to jump out of her skin in excitement. ]

[ homura smiles back; even if it's not very interesting here, she's having fun. She tries to mime what she wants to say, but fails, so kicks back up to the surface ]

I think there are coral reefs around the islands here. Maybe we should swim out further?

[ sploosh as feferi's head breaks the surface! ] That sounds amazing, let's go! Which way?

Um, out! [ she points vaguely out to sea ] I'm sure we can find one in deeper water.

Aye-aye! Shall I pull you along in your silly little tube?

You think it's silly? Well, it would probably be all right to leave it here, if you're watching to make sure I don't drown...

[ COURAGE!!!!!!! she slips the tube over her head, treading water instead ] All right! I can do this!

Hehehe, that's the spirit! I don't make a habit of letting my friends drown, so you'll be okay. [ tug tug let's go!! ]

[ homura paddles after!! having friends is a new experience okay ]

This is so exciting! I don't think I've ever been so excited. I wonder what kinds of fish live on this planet. Maybe we have all the same fish! [ swimming out deeper and deeper, alternating between swimming entirely under the water and on her back so she can chatter continuously. ]

Um, there are octopi, and sea urchins, and... fish.... [ WITNESS HOMURA'S EXTENSIVE AQUATIC KNOWLEDGE. She has to keep pausing to spit water out of her mouth, but she's doing a fair job of keeping up ]

Hehehe, we had all of those things on Alternia, too! [ she treads in place, quickly surveying what's under the water. ] Here's one. Shall we?

[ she nods, takes a breath, and submerges herself. And then-- ]

Wow--!

[ she's never seen a coral reef up close and in person before, so she's unable to stop herself exclaiming; she bobs back up and takes another breath before descending again ]

[ dissolving into unintelligible giggles again, diving under the water herself. you may not be able to speak down there, but feferi sure can! ]

It's amazing! Look at all the colors!

[ homura nods, pointing to a school of angelfish as they zip past. She makes a hand motion she hopes indicates that she's never been that close to fish before, and she thought they'd be more scared of her! (That is a lot to fit into one hand motion so it probably doesn't really work) ]

[ as usual, feferi's first reaction is to laugh. she's got no idea what homura's trying to say, but she looks pretty happy! ] They're pretty neat, right! Fish are actually pretty friendly, as long as you don't try to hurt or frighten them.

[ she reaches out a hand, letting the fish swim around her fingers and arm, giggling silently when they brush her. She cocks her head and points at them, meaning to ask if Feferi has the same kind where she comes from ]

[ okay, she thinks she's starting to get the hang of this gesture talk thing. ] Amazing, hehehe! We had these kinds on Alternia, too! Though they were a little different. More dangerous-looking? I guess everything Alternian is somewhat more dangerous than all your fragile human stuff.
