If ordinary firearms work against these witches you are fighting... does that mean they are fundamentally similar to other, non-magical living beings?

Hmm... I suppose so. They don't really have anything like consistent anatomy, and some of them have a particular spot you need to hit... but Kaname-san and Tomoe-san's magical weapons aren't really much more powerful than normal ones.
