I think I understand the wishes now. You don't get a wish in exchange for fighting... you pay for a wish with everything you would be if you didn't fight. So it's not really important. I can't be safe unless she is.

That's not how it works. I don't really know why. The last time I rewound, she didn't remember anything that happened on our world, but she remembered being on the community.
